ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
A man named Martin Walsh, 32 years of age. who was recently a fireman on board" the Waitoino, made an attempt on Ids life at the Wharf Hotel, where ho l ia s been staying. Walsh left the vessel when it arrived at Dunedin from Oamaru, and since then, owing to the strike, he has been out of employment. He is a married man with three children, why reside in Hobart, and his idleness seems to have considerably depressed him lately. At 10.30 on the Bth he entered his bedroom alon" with a companion named George Adlard, 0 and without warning took up a razor and drew it across his throat. Hie companion immediately grappled with him and prevented him from doing further damage to himself, in the meantime calling for help. A third man named Patrick Hart then arrived and took the razor from Walsh. Dr Gordon Macdonald was called in and found that the man was not seriously injured, a wound three inches in length being inflicted over the windpipe, but the windpipe itself not being touched. Walsh was subsequently convoyed to the Hospital.
