WHARF LABOURERS’ DEMANDS. MELBOURNE, December 8. The proposals to be submitted by the waterside workers to the steamship owners provide for an increase of 33 per cent, on the current rates of pay —namely, 2s. per hour for ordinary time at all the main porta except Queensland, where 2s 6d is asked. Overtime pay is fixed at time and a half and double time for work between Saturday at noon and Monday morning, except work done on Sunday, Good Friday, and Christmas Day, for which 10s an hour is wanted. The men stipulate that they will do no work -with sailors or non-unionists, and they shall not be asked to receive cargo from non-unionists during a strike. In case of having to be vaccinated under the regulations, they demand £1 each time they undergo the operation. The agreement proposes that three sacks shall constitute a load per man for a twowheel truck; the truckers to do no other work. In an accident insurance scheme, for which the employers are to be resuggested payments to the funds range from 35s weekly to a maximum oi £6OO.
