OBITUARY
ADMIRAL PEARSON, . LONDON, June 14. The death of Admiral Sir H. L. Peareon is announced. MR B. SHORT. SYDNEY, June 11. The death is announced of Mr Benjamin Short, who was prominent in religious and financial circles. He was a director of the. A.M.P. Society, a founder of the Congregational Church at Nelson, and of the Independent Church, Dunedin. Mr Short was well known in Dunedin many years ago, when he was an agent for the A.M.P. Society. The Independent Church referred to in the cablegram is now known as the King Street Congrega.tional Church. MR J. N. BROWN. SYDNEY, June 17. Mr J. N. Brown died in Sydney to-day. Death was due to pneumonia. Mr James N. Brown was the second noil.
of Mr James Brown, who arrived in Dunedm oy toe snip Jifcuncia in \lo*H. Mr Brown was born aboard ship a few days before landing. He was educated in dunedin and at Nelson College. He entered the Dunedin office of the Bank of New Zealand, and nine years later joined the National Bank, and was appointed manager of the North Dunedin branch on ita opening in 1877. He was a trustee of the Dunedin Hospital, Taoid was a iustioe oi the peace. Mr Brown retired from the National _ Bank about a year ago on account of ill-health, since when he -had mad* his home in Sydney.
