HIGH COMMISSIONERSHIP.

STATEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER AUCKLAND, June 147 "Who will be the next High Commissioner?" was the question put by a representative this morning to the Hon, Thomas Mackenzie. The attention of the Prime Minister was at the same time called to the reports which appeared in the Opposition press recently to the effect that the Cabinet had considered making an appointment, and had taken a ballot which resulted in favour of the Hon. R. M'Kenzie in preference to the Hon. Sir J. G. Findlay. This report the Prime Minister emphatically denied. The matter, he said, had not even been considered by the Cabinet, and there was no likelihood of anv appointment to the position of High Commissioner until after Parliament had met.
