LONDON, August 9. Frozen meat: The River Plate shipments are: —Mutton, 245,750 carcases; lamb, 96.000 carcases; beef, frozen, 153,000 pieces, chilled 214,500 pieces. The Times, in its crop report, gives the following percentages: —British wheat, 95; barley, 86.6; and oats, 83.7. The American visible supply of wheat is 58.779.000 bushels. August 10. Wheat. —An Australian cargo has sold at 34s 6d. August 11. The Bank of England returns show the stock of gold coin and bullion to ba £38,572,000; reserve, £27,661,000; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 54.10. The notes in circulation total £50,464,000; public deposits, £7,652,000; other deposits, £43,470,000; Government securities, £l4, 967,000; and other securities, £26,528,000.

The bank rate of discount is 3 per cent. Short loans are discounted at 2| per cent., and three months’ bills as follows: —London, 2 9-16 per cent.; Paris, per cent. ; Berlin, 3 per cent. Consols are quoted at £7B 2s 6d.

The following are the quotations for colonial Government stocks, compared with those ruling a week previous :

The Bradford wool market is firm, and prices are unchanged. The wheat market is firm. Spot business is impossible owing to the strike. The English harvest is nearly completed, and the bulk of the grain is of excellent quality and condition, but the absence of rain in India, bad crop reports from Russia, and black rust in America and Canada are rendering holders bullish and haaxlening prices. There is .a good demand tor cargoes. Sixteen thousand quarter's of South Australian, July-August shipment, and an Australian cargo have been sold at 36s sd, 6000 tons of South Australian and Victorian, August-Sep-tember shipment, at 35s 4d, and cargoes at 34s 9d. Another cargo and 10,000 quarters of South Australian, per sailer, March shipment, realised 54s and. 16,000 quarters, per sailer, Augnst-Sep-tember shipment, 35s 9d. Parcels, August shipment, have been sold at 34s 6d and 555. Australian spot (nominal), 36s 6d to 375. Flour: There is a fair demand for Australian patent brands at 24s to 24s 6d ex store.

Oats are scare. Cartons, 21s 6d to 23e ; eparrowbille, 20s 6d to 21s 6d ; La Plata, July-August shipment, 16s 3^d. Peas: New Zealand Maples, 41s ex store, 38s 6d August shipment.

The estimate of the winter harvest of wheat in the States is 454,149,000 bushels, and. the spring harvest 209,645,000.

August 12. Copra: Active, South Sea bags £24 to £24 10s. The Incorporated Society of Meat Importers states that it cannot give reliable quotations owing to the strike: Wheat: Australian cargoes have been, sold at 35s and 36s respectively. Silver, 24d.
