COUNTRY RACING CLUBS.
ASKING FOR PERAIITS. (Feom Oub Own Coehespondent.)
WELLINGTON, August 10,
The representatives of country constitutiencies are combining in an endeavour to secure a restoration of totalizator permits to those country clubs who were deprived of the privilege on the recommendation. of the Racing Commission. A lead has been given by the member for .Taumarunui, whose bill for the amendment of the Gaming Act is set down for its second reading on Wednesday, and it is understood that his proposal 'that the clubs which have lost their privileges should be allowed one day’s racing each year, will receive, general support. A suggestion has been made that unless they succeed in their purpose the country members will support a proposal for the total abolition of the totalisator. There is no justification for this tion, as the country representatives are confident that success will be commanded by the merits of the case which they are advocating.
