INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITIONS.
A CHRISTCHURCH PROPOSAL. (Frou Our Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 26. The president of the Canterbury Industrial Association (Mr P. Herons), who returned from a _ visit to the Wellington Industrial Exhibition yesterday, was asked by a Press representative whether there was any likelihood of another industrial exhibition being held in Christchurch in the- near future. '"My own opinion," said Mr Hercus, "is that either next year or the year following we should certainly endeavour to organise an industrial exhibition similar to the last one held in Christchurch, when the Canterbury Hall was opened, and the matter is now .receiving the attention of the Canterbury Industrial Association." Mr Hercus added that such an exhibition could not be held this year very well, for it would clash with the Wellington' Exhibition, while next year it might clash with the exhibition proposed to be held in Auckland. In the meantime, however, the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council was endeavouring to organise an industrial exhibition on a small scale in October, and the Industrial Association was giving its-support to the scheme. The proposal was to hold an exhibition of working exhibits and manufactured goods in one of the halls of the city something similar to the exhibition held in Tuam Street '.Hall, now the Opera House, some years ago. The proposal to hold a Dominion purchasing week, which originated with the unions, would also- receive the support of the Industrial Association, and would for the time being reaJly take the place of the local industries week. The latter week should have been held about the present time, but was postponed on account of the Wellington Exhibition, and the proposal now was to hold it later in the year.
