WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS

By Peter Pak. May 12. Dear "Pasquin,"—"Why Men Love Women" has 'been explained nightly at the Opera House this week by Allan Hamilton's Dramatic Company, and tile explanation has been deemed satisfactory by the large audiences attracted. Miss Frances Ross met with a most cordial reception on her reappearance here, after an absence of some' years. The company's season here is bus a brief one, and it closes to-anorrow night. From here the company goes on to Palmerston North, Wanganui, Hawera, New Plymouth, Hamilton, and Waihi; then to Auckland. After the season in the northern city the company returns to Sydney.

Charles Berkeley trie energetic is in town, and he talks lengthily and interestingly about "The Whip," which J. C. Williamson's Company is to present to us next Thursday evening. Already puite a small army of mechanists have arrived to miake preparations for staging this great production. The 12 racehorses which are carried are also her©, and l their daily parades through the town are arousing much interest "Via Wireless" and "Henry of Navarre" will also be produced during the season.

Mr Leo D. Chateau, who has gone north heralding the Allan Hamilton Dramatic Company, returns to Wellington on June 1 to put "The Mountebanks" through their final rehearsals of "Mrs Dot," which they produce at the Opsra House on the 7th, Bth, and 9th June. Mr Chateau then goes on to Dunedin to prepare the way for the coming of Clarke and Meynell's opera companv in "The Arcadians." Wellington's six picture, shows continue to do well, and there is talk that another is to be established at Kilbirnie. Rarnold's Dogs are still a firreat attraction at,the Theatre Royal. Their season is just concluding, and then the clever act will be taken on to Auckland. "Doctor" Rowe, the conjurer, is just now reappearing at the Royal.

Miss Grace Palotta and Mr "Billy" Low, of the Hugh Ward Company, arrived from the south this morning;, and leave for Sydney this evening. Mirs Palotta is hwrying home to Vienna, where her mothtr is ill. She has. to. do some quick travelling to_ connect with the R.M.S. Otway at Adelaide. Mr Low is going to Sydney on business in connection with the "New Company of Comedians." I understand that Mr R. Greig will take up most of Mr Hugh Ward's parts with the new company.
