The Father of Miller’s Flat.
TO THE EDITOR. Sih, —In the Otago Witness of the 10th! inst., under the heading of " Gabriel's Gully Jubilee," appears, amongst those of others giving their experiences, a letter from Mr W. H. Miller, Manuka Creek, who claims to be the father of Miller's Plat. Mr Miller is quite in error here, as he must know that Miller's Flat was named 1 after his late brother, Walter Miller, whose name has been frequently mentioned in the Gabriel's Gully correspondence, and who took up the present Ormaglade run (then known as Oven Hill), in, the early days, after exploring the country in company with the late John Oarprill, who fixed upon the Teviot run (Cargill and Anderson's), adjoining Ormaglade. Mr W. H. Miller's connection" with Miller's Flat was that ha shepbeirded there for the late Walter Miller long after he had taken up the run ; and although he doubtless was engaged in mining there later, the place was cor-t-ainily not named after him. Mr W. H. Miller's claim will no doubt cause much surprise araonsst early settlers, who have always identified Miliar's Flat with the name of the early pioneer settler, Mr Walter Miller, of Roxburgh Station, Mount Stuart, and Miller's Flat.—l am, etc..
