THE BRITISH NAVY.
LONDON, June 10. The Admiralty has distributed orders for 14 destroyers of the Acorn class and six others respecting which the contractors will be allowed a larger latitude of design in the ship and machinery. The Admiralty has arranged that the Australian draft shall serve aboard the destroyers of the tribal class during the July manoeuvres, when the Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Home fleets combine, including 45 battleships . and 25 armoured cruisers. Naval critics welcome the return to the tradition of “a silent navy,” and the present freedom from warring factions of the Beresford-Fisher type, as a consequence of Admiral Wilson’s administration. Mr Blatchford threatens to discontinue publishing the Clarion, because his readers object to bis advocacy of a strong navy and army and are indifferent to defence.. June 12. Messrs Chapman and Hall, publishers, declare that the pamphlet “ The Truth about the Navy ” was not written by or at the instance of Sir John Fisher or anyone connected with the Admiralty.
