It is 'reported tliat large quantities, of arms and ammunition have been of .'late imported into Ecuador, in one case, it is alleged, by a Chilian transport and war vessel. • __ ";• A farmer rose up at the Farmers' Union Conference at Marton last month and seriously proposed that the Government should be urged to introduce legislation making it compulsory that all dogs' be chained up at night with a view to preventing the worrying' of sheep. Another delegate said many farmers found it abao* lutely necessary to keep a dog off the chain in the . back yard at nights in order that the arrival of nocturnal visitors should be appropriately announced.
