Four cases of dipthtberia have been re*, ported in. Southland during the month—i two in the Winton district, one at Night* cap 3, and the other in Inveroargill. One of tie Winton cases terminated fatally (says the News) before a doctor was summoned. Seven cases of consumption were notified, four of whom died —two at Inveicargill, and two at Gore. An unusual evidence of the voracity of rats was discovered at Napier a few days ago. Mr Horace Weber, the cathedral organist, found the organ out of operation, and (says the Teleg-raph) ascertained .''at rats had through some of the pipe?. Th. 3 ckfect lias boon repaired.
