NATIVE LANDS.

AUCKLAND, May 25. A deputation waited on the Hon. A. T. Ngata yesterday, headed by the Hon. Mr Mahuta and Mr Henare Kih.au, M.P. for the Western Maori electorate, in reference to the acquisition of Native land for settlement by Europeans. Representatives from the Waikato, Kawhia, Tamatara, and Maniapoto tribes were present, and offered about 350,000 acres of land for purchase in terms of the Native Land Act of last year. In reply to the deputation, Mr Ngata stated that the Government was prepared to acquire large areas immediately under the conditions of last session's enactment. In order tha-t the subject could be more fully investigated and details considered, it was decided that a further meeting be held at Huntly early in June, at which the Hon. James Carroll will in all probability be present.
