(From Our Own Correspondent.) June 4. Sir Tristram just failed to land the Ruakawa Cup for the third time. He did not compete for the race as a five-year-old, when, ho went into retirement after racing at the. Wellington Cup meeting. Sir Tristram is one of the few Sir Lancelots racincr. He has been a consistent and reliable performer. His sire was brilliant and his dam a good stayer, and Sir Tristram has done best in races up to a mils and a-quarter. Bourbon, who ran second in the Maiden Hack Eace at Otaki. is a New South Wales-bred colt by Louis Xlll—Felucca,: He is trained bj J. H. Prosser at Porirua, and is in the private sale list. From Tauhernikau the death is an< nounced of Mr Robert Ross, who has fo< some time resided in the Wairarapa disv trict, where he owned Chatsworth anaother stallions. Jenkins had several mounts at Otaki yesterday, and was placed in three events, but failed to score a win. winner of'the Ruakawa Cup, did not score out of his turn. Royal Marine, winner of the Flying Hack Race at Otaki yesterday, was taken to Wanganui, but failed to do anything in the big fields. He is tailed at the old Hutt course by Dan Nyhan, who a*so has Havoc, Dick G., and other trotters. Royal Marine has so far paid his way, which cannot" be said of some of the Royal Artillery stock. He was off the scene for a couple *>f seasons, through a bad accident met with when riding a horse of his brother's in a Inn-die race at Otaki. After a long run of seconds the Leolantie gelding Leolanter broke the ice at Otaki yesterday. The Taranaki-owned Plantation (Sylvia Park—lrma), a winner at Egioont, was favourite, but failed to get a felaoe.
