Mr B. Aston, of the chemistry branch of the Department of Agriculture, and _ Mr Alexander, stock inspector, are visiting Rotorua to inquire into the disease which is affecting the stock in that district. This matter was recently brought under the notice of the Minister of Agriculture. According to a Java newspaper, extensive opium smuggling occurs between Celebes and Port Bavangani. The worst side of the business is that the smugglers combine their traffic in opium with what ia known in Europe as the " white slave trade."
