The sixth annual reunion of the Sixth New Zealand Mounted Rifles (South Africa) was held at Wellington on Thursday evening. Lieutenant Quinton presided. There was an attendance of about 50 members of the regiment, and the function ivas_ a great success. Lieutenant Beamish, who acts as secretary of the Sixth New Zealand Mounted Rifles' Association, read correspondence from absent members, conveying felicitations to the gathering. The evening was spent with music, recitations, toasts, and reminiscences. Rattles were fought over again and arduous treks recalled. The other night the meat safe of an Oamaru resident was robbed of its contents. Preparations had been made for a festive event, and the safe happened to befilled with dainties of all description. The midnight prowler took everything. What between the robbing of clothes lines and meat safes (says the North Otago Times), there have been some fairly heavy losses recently.
