CHRISTCHURCH POULTRY CLUB.

CHRISTCHURCH, June 2. The forty-third annual show of the Christchurch Poultry Club opened in the King Edward Barracks in conjunction with four specialist clubs—namely, the South Island Leghorn and Minorca Club, the Christchurch Pigeon Club, the Christchurch . Cage Bird Club, and the Christchurch Cat Club. The entries totalled over 1412, as against 1260 last year. The clubh best record was 1655 in 1906. Leghorns topped the list with 155, Wyandottes being next with 81, and Orpingtons 54. Many well-known breeds, such as Dorkings, Cochins, and Spanish are absent. The pigeons number 496, working Homers making the strongest classes. Next come long-faced tumblers, which number 130 odd, which is a New Zealand record for the breed. Magpies, show homers, and dragoons are well represented. There are 299 cage birds, which is also a Dominion record. There are 9J cats on show, which is another Dominion record. The South Island Association championships are distributed in groups this year, this being an innovation. The group for pigeons fell to Christchurch, and the winners are owls (and the best pigeon in the show), S. Otley; muffled tumblers, T. H. Jones; pouters or croppers, G. Clark; dragoons, A. Gapes ; show homers, E. D. Rees; working homers, George Anderson.
