BAY TOWN BOARD.
The regular meeting of the Bay Town Board, held on the 6th, was attended by Messrs Somerville (in the- chair), Scott, Leslie, Youngson, M'Curdy, and Lee Smith. Mr W. Horner asked permission to cut down a bank in front of his property to the footpath level, and use the clay therefrom. —Left in the hands of Mr Youngson. The Public Works Department wrote informing the-'board that, in view of the nature of the proposals submitted by it, the matter of the grant fox the School road was referred to the Minister of Public Works for cons-ideration. The statement made by him was that when he was asked to make provision for this work the full circumstances of the ca.se were not disclosed to him. It now appeared that the road (which was drily 20ft wide) was quite close to the City of Dunedin. also that the gradient was 1 in 7, and that the work proposed to be done could not be undertaken without encroaching on private property. Under these circumstances, the Minister regretted that he could"not see
his way to authorise the grant to the board.—Received, In response to a request from the National Bank that the usual resolution should be passed giving authority to borrow (in anticipation of revenue) by way of overdraft, Mr Fornervilie moved, and Mr Youngson seconded, and it was carried—- " That in anticipation of revenue, the board do borrow from time to time as required by way of overdraft the district fund account the sum of £800." Mr B B. Couston wrote forwarding a statement of the total cost of the Maui road metalling amounting to £243 Is M, and informed the board that he had made Application to the Roads Department to have the work inspected and the amount of grant (£200) paid to the boaid s account. —Received. , , , .. c . The motion passed at last meeting fixing the general rate at Id in the pound was formally confirmed. . . , , The Ranger reported having impounded four horses and five cows during the month. , ~i i • Mr Jeffery waited on the board in reference to the library to be housed in the board's building, and asked for a donation towards the repairs and alteration to the room.—The board decided to pay the cost of the alterations, and accepted the tender of Mr Weir for £l9 10s for the work. Mr Spencer appeared before the board to Dress his plea that the board should take over a road used by him in Oakland*i.— The board repudiated all control over the road, as it had not taken it over, and decided that it would take further legal advice in the matter.
