OBITUARY.

LONDON, June 2

The following deaths are announced : Sir Francis Seymour Haden, founder and president of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers ; aged 92 years. Sir William Brampton Gurdon, exM.P., and formerly private secretary to Mr Gladstone ; aged 70 years. Miss Elizabeth Blackwell, Ai.D., formerly of the United States, where she studied medicine as far back as 1851, and held the distinction of being the first qualified lady doctor ; aged 89 years. Viscount Chelsea, aged seven, died durino- an operation for appendicitis. SYDNEY, June 3. The death of the Hon. William Gregory Walker, ex-Judge of the Supreme Court, is announced. He was 62 years of'age. June 6. The death is announced of Mr Brunker, a Legislative Councillor. He was for 30 years in Parliament, and a former Minister of Lands and Chief Secretary in the Parkes and Reid Administrations. HON. R. H. J. REEVES, M.L.C. NELSON, June 1. The Hon.- R. H. J. Reeves, M.L.C, Chairman of Committees in the Legislative Council, died at 9.5 this morning, after a short illness, from heart attack. Mr Reeves was born at Enniscorthy, Wexford, Ireland, and was educated at the Grammar School, Barrow, arid Tarvin Cheshire. Early in life he went to sea, and in 1852 was on the Australian goldfields. He was elected, during an absence, to the Canterbury Provincial Council, but resigned, and was electee- a member of the Westland County Council after separation. From 1878 till 1881 he represented Grey Valley in the House of Representatives, and Margahua from 1887 till 1892 In 1895 he was called to the Legislative Council, r and was re-appointed in 1902, and was for some years Chairman of Committees. He was also f member of the Westport Harbour Board.
