LONDON, June 1. Eleven millions of arrears of the income tax for 1909-10 were collected in May. The resolution authorising the collection of income tax for the year April 1, 1909-March 31, 1910, was passed by the House of Commons in April. The rates of the new tax are : Rate per pound. s. d. Unearned income dividends) ... ... 1 2 Earned income up to £2OOO 0 9 Earned income, £2OOO-£3OOO 1 0 All income over £3OOB 1 2 All income over £SOOO, super-tax on every pound over £3OOO 0 6 The usual abatements apply to residents in the United Kingdom up to £7OO. and an extra abatement of £lO is allowed for every child under 16 from incomes under £SOO
