STEAMSHIP SUBSIDIES
NEW YORK, March 4. The United States Senate Committee on Commerce favours Senator Gallinger's bill authorising an increase in the subsidies of all mail steamers to South America, the Philippines, Japan, China, and Australia to 16s per mile for first and second class steamers, and to 3s for third class steamers.
