Auckland Roman Catholics on the 29th ult. ttzi influential"committee was appointed to make arrangements for the reception, of Cardinal Moran on the occasion of his ap proaching- visit for the reopening of St. Patrick's Cathedral
The volcano on Savaii, Samoa, continues active with but slight intermission. Passenger* by the Navua, which arrived at Auckland on the 29th ult., had a magnificent view of the volcano by night. In the course of a report furnished to the City Council on the 30th ult. the Works Committee stated that the council was paying its carters wages in excess of those laid down by the award of the Arbitration Court, and the committee recommended that so long as the city engineer was satisfied that the drivers were doing good work no alteration should be made in the rate jaid. The recommendation was adopted after some discussion.
