POISONS AND SHOOTS HIMSELF.
SYDNEY, February 3. % - The Rev Thomas TSivi, a Methodist minister, committed sudcidei at King's Bark. He first swallowed a dccc of ..strychnine, and then shot himself. He , was a witness before the Royal Commis- • jsion on the Illingworth land scandals. ' His connection with the matter arose from his purchasing property from Mr iHlingwortb, on which the latter obtained A loan from the Treasury in the niame of a dummy. There was. no suggestion .of dishonourable conduct on Mr Bird's part, but the notoriety that the business raised evidiently preyed on his mind. He "left a note stating, inter alia: "For a long time I have wished to die. I am <so disappointed at my own weakness. Men do as they like with me witih money matters. My Conference since 1901 has flways opposed me."
