ALHAMBRA THEATRE

Fullers' Entertainers attracted the u?ual large audience at tbe popular Dow ling street theatre on Saturday night. The company, considerably strengthened by the Meistersingers, presented a programme of great merit, and met with a reception that was mo«t flattering. The Meistersingers, a quartet of male voice«. who made their first appearance m Dunedin provided what was undoubtedly a musical treat. Their part singing, in which they excel, was of a very high order indeed. The blending of the voices was perfect, Rnd the quaint effects occasionally intioduced lent pleasant variety to the singing. Their success was instantaneous, and the audience was not satisfied until it had exacted from the new arrivals some five distinct numbers. The Meistersingers are a decided acquisition to the present combination of artists. Of the othsr artists the Bicknell's provided quite & charming musical comedy sketch — in fact the best they have yet presented. They again introduced their dancing extraordinary wi'h. eonsideiable success. Apollo Belvedere, " the living bronze statue," appeared in a number of new posmgs, such as Ajax, Atlas, MeTcury, the Dying Gladiator, and others, all of them excellent representations. The sketch staged" by Gredge and Gibson was delightfully humorous and was cleverly acted. Miss Dorothy I/estrange (soprano) and Mr Val j Newton (baritone) contributed some excellent ] vocal numbers, and met with due appreciation. Miss Ida Berridge (a serio who enjoys an enviable popularity), Mr Ward Lear (comedian). Miss Annie. Cavender, and Mr Harry Linden were al! responsible for some- | thing bright and entertaining The bioscopic pictures were new and realistic and quite a feature of the performance.
