CROMWELL, September 27. The weather has been cold, "-with a lot of lain and snow on the high 'country. The liver is up slightly, but is now falling. The wash, of the Alpine Consols dredge is improving daily, and the return ■will be /Jnuch better thau" last week's. The Eiley's Beach dredge is on poor ground. It is rumoured the directors have : secured a claim on the Clutha Eiver which gives them work for years. The Junction Nos. 1 and 2 dredges are loth doing well. The Electric K"o. 1 dredge is still on exceptionally rich ground, but the rise in the jriver has put a lot of tailings down on the -dredge, which will affect the return this week. The Rise and, Shine No. 1 dredge is on rich "ground, and should have good returns lor some time now.
