The demand for wheat is still good, both millers and merchants being buyers. Lines that have been on offer for some time past can now be disposed of at the prices asked. Among the business transacted during the past few days was 3000 bushels of bright mixed wheat at 3s, and 1000 bushels of Hunters slightly sprouted at 2s lOd (both ex
store), 1200 bushels Tuscan and 800 bushels Hunters at 29 lOJd, 1200 bushels Tuscan and Hunters at 2s 10d, 2000 bushels Hunters at 2s lOd (country stations); also 1800 bushels whole fowl wheat at 2s Bd, ex store.
No oats are offering, though they are wanted.
The best offer for potatoes now is £7 per ton, at which some sales have been made, though growers are loth to accept that figure after refusing a nrach higher price.
A Christchnrch telegram, states that there was a very large entry of pigs at Saturday's market's, and a much keener demand than at Addington on Wednesday. Stores sold from lls to 22s 6d; suckers and weaners, 5s 6d to 10s 6d. There were moderate entries of poultry, and a very keen demand, especially for fat mature birds.
