THE TENDERS FOR CONSTRUCTION.
The secretary to the Otago Dock Trust informs us, in reply to Mr Lyders's statement, that he had submitted the names of hl"^h 1 "^ sureties for the construction of tho dock within the specified time. *hat Mr Lyders is in error in makng this statement. Th« tenders wera sent in on the 4th inst., and in accordance with the specifications the tenderers had to state the names of their sureties. In sending in Irs tender Mr Lyders did nofc mention sureties, nor offer to complete the work in less than two and a-half years, the time specified, although aware like others that time would be a consideration. The tenders were referred to a special committee to report to a meeting of the trust on the 11th inst. About that date a letter was received from Mr Lyders stating that he would construct the dock in two years, and mentioning his sureties. This was about a week after the result of the tenders was made public.
