Retail ta-ados: Drapers. In the laiger shops business is up to the usual season's average; trad-o in the sma'ler shops is on the quiet ride. Bootjnakers. complain of bad season, sales this reason being exceptionally low and considerably less than the corresponding period of last year. Ooaohbuilfling . Very slack ; a number of hands uneinp'oyed. Plumbing, etc.: Fairly bnsy; all hands employed. Dressmaking: Quiet. Millinery: Busy. Unskilled labour: During the. month a largo number of this class of worker made application fcr employment, the major portion r»f them being single men and strangers to Dunedin, many of whom are induced to remain about town owing to the publicity given of the intention of the Government ip proceed w'th the duplication of the Danetlin-Mcgiel line. Sixty-seven persons have boen assisted during the month, 31 being sent to G-overnmeni works, and 33 being pla-oed privately. ; Oamaru.— Building trad.3s: Good in stone ' but somewhat quiet in timber.
