Nelson Reli c s. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,— Now that the centenary of Trafalgar is drawing nigh it may he interesting to the people of Now Zealand to see, or hear, of any genuine relics of X-el son's ship the "Victory. Personally, I only know of one, and that is in possession of Mr Edwin .lopson. of Rough. Ridge. Maniototo County. This relic is a man-o'-waiema-n's " ditty box," or " donkey," and its history is as follows: — In the j'ear 1858 the Victory was being renovated at, I believe, Portsmouth. Mr Jop&on. who was then serving in the navy, procured some of the cedar panelling then being taken out of the Victory, and had it made into the '"ditty box" described The dimensions of the box are about llin by 13in by 7in, and finished plain. Although it is not much to look at, I don't think that any amount of nioney would tempt the veteran to part with it. Perhaps there may be others of your readers who know of the existence of relics of Trafalgar in New Zealand, and who may be willing to make known the wherean >nts of tlie same through the columns oif' your valuable paper. — I am, etc., Relic
