What the Captain Told Him.
"I heard a first-rate story the oilier day. The Kaiser was, not long ago, inspecting a certain Guaids regiment which snail -be nameless, and talked in his cordial manner fo some of the soldiers. One of tiw~.se, a finely-built peasant youth, answered to the name of Andree, and his Majesty inquired if he knew what celebrated peison bore the same name. ' Oh, yes, Majestat,' answered the Guardsman, 'the North Pole explorer! 1 The Kaiser asked him how he had heard of him ; and the man replied, ' Oh, the Herr Hauptmaain told me who he was.' 'Now tell me,' said the Kaiser, pleasantly, ' what did your captain tell you about Andree?' 'Ach the Herr Hauptmann didn't say much about him, Majestat,' answered the son of Mars; 'he only said he wished ho had taken you with him !' Kaiser Wilhelm could not restrain himself; he jtist roared; and, out of gratitude for having laughed so heartily, presented Andree with a ten -mark piece, managing to get out the words, 'I expect it wasn't as bad as all that.'
