Literary and Debating Society was held In the Oddfellows' Hall, Tay street", on Wednesday evening, September 27l Tliere were present of the committee the president ("Willow Brook). Eewa, Zeailia., Ceres, Southern Cross, and Maidie M. As the club had decided to devote one ■evening in each month for the contributions of country writers, this, their first evening, was looked forward to with much interest, and the splendid support afforded fully justified the step taken] The following contributed papers: — Boy, who took for his subject, "Books"; Echo, "Are the Women of the Present Day Over-educated?"; Koby, "Postbags" ; Cornish, "Other People's' Feelings'" ; Jessica, "Spring : My Favourite Season" ; | Awkward K"ed, "Thinking and Speaking"; Maidie M., "Story of a Long-legged Spider" ; and Ceres, "A Model Club" ; also an extract, "Experiences and Observations of a Spider." The papers were some of the finest that have ever been, read before the club, and a hearty, ■tote of thanks was unanimously accorded the writers, lt-^gras resolved — "That the members o? this club" extend their deepest sympathy to "White Hyacinth and Marie Corelli in th«ir sad bereavement." Boy, Zealia, 'and Ceres ■were unanimously elected to 'form "a Magazine Committee. — Yours triiljC j CERES, Secretary. j
