SPINSTERS' 'BALL AT LEE STREAM.

Dear Emmeline, — Owing to the in-clemency of the weather the spins Lers of Lee Stream had to postpone their ball, which was to have been Jieid on September 22, until Sewtember 29, and that evening being an ideal on e for dancing, a most enjoyable and successful night was spent. I he scnooJ, which was cleared for the occasion, was beautifully decorated with ferns, flowers and evergreens, under the supervision of the Mi&ses Deans and White, and looked very picturesque, ffhe best of music was supplied by Mr Bre-nsel], while Messrs Brady and Howeli and Miss N. Smith aiso assisted. Miss Doherty proved a most energetic secretary, judging by the response to the many invitations outsido the district, visitors being present from all the surrounding loca-lities, including Outrara, Hindon, Deep Stream, Kuri Bush, and Dunedin. Miss Nichc-1 acted as M.C. until midnight, when Mr Sullivan assumed the dutiee. WEDDING : MILNES — BECK.

Dear Emme-line, — On Wednesday, 27th ult., a wedding- of considerable- interest to Queenstown residents and to a large number of persons in Dunedin took place at "Te Whare Pai/' Upper Walker street, the residence of Mr J. Beck. The principals were Mr Fred. Milnes, of Queenstown, son of Mr J. W. Mi'.nes, manager of the Phoenix Company, Dunedin, and Miss Ethel Beck, daughter of Mr J. Beck. There was a Ikigo attendance of relatives and friends at the ceremony, amongst those present, besides the parents of the bride and bridegroom, being Mr and Mrs Duke (Sawyers Bay), Mr and Mrs Youngman, Mi's Growden, Mrs if. Beck, Mr and Mrs Walter Beck, • Mr and Mrs John Bell, Mr and Mrs T. H. Eason, and Dr Borrie Port Chalmers). The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Dr Waddell, who, after the happy couple had been made man and wife, spoke a few words of sincere congratulation. Mr Duke also conveyed to the happy couple the hearty good wishes of those present for their futvue happiness and prosperity. Mr Milnes hnd the services of Mr Walter Beck as best man, and Miss Beck had as bridesmaid Miss Norah Beck. The biide, your lady readers will be interested to know, looked exceedingly attractive in a costume of white lustre, trimmed with chiffon. The bridesmaid was attired in white voile trimmed with satin. That the young coupl© are widely esteemed was evidenced by the numeious presents of useful and ornamental articles and cheques given them, specially noticeable being the gifts io the brid"e from various organisations in St. Andrew's Churcfi^ in which, for some yeais past, she has been an enthusiastic worker. Mrs Milnes will be missed by her Dunedin friends, but the enjoyment of a visit lo Queenstown by them in future will bs enhanced by the siaht of her happy face and that of her popular husband.— Reee.
