Hints and Suggestions.
Do not send children to bed having had nothing to eat since the 5 o'clock tea ; this is too long a fast till breakfast. Let them have a little milk pudding or bread-and-milk before going to bed. Growing . children • must never be allowed to overwork their brains. Rapid growth is a strain of itself on a child's constitution. Baby should weigh three times as much at twelve months old as he did when born. 1 Save the washing of tablecloths by 1 covering the nursery table with white I American cloth. All stains can be removed by wiping with a damp cloth, and \ it greatly saves the washing bill. Baby's Skin. — Use no soap if baby has a skin eruption, and as little water as possible; after using water, dust the skin with fullers-earth. Put on a good skin ointment till the skin is clear again. A pleasant and easily-made drink for summer is manufactured by placing in a deep tumbler a large spoonful 01 currant, raspberry, or gooseberry jam and adding two tablespooniuls of lemon juice. Fill the tumbler with cold water, and stir it well. Water at an agreeable temperature is easily procured, even in very warm weather, by placing -the vessel containing it in a soup-plate, and covering it with a cloth or flannel ringing wet, and the ends dipping into the plate, which should be placed in a draught. — Lotions for the Hair. — A delightful home-made wash for hair that requires strengthening is composed of the following ingredients : — Bay rum, six ounces; glycerine, one ounce; tincture of cantharides, half an ounce: rosewater, an ounce or rather more. The wash ; should be rubbed into the roots of the hair with a small sponge. Here is another prescription for weak hair : — Liquid ammonia, one drachm ; vinegar of cantharides. four drachms; Eau de Cologne, rme ounce; glycerine, one ounce ; rosewater, six ounces. The use of the stimulant must be accompanied by friction. The following is a recipe for a hair stimulant specially suitable for use when the hair shows a tendency to fall :—: — Tincture of jaborandi, four drachms; lanoline, three drachms: glycerine, two ounces. Mix all with a little purified soft soap, and rub well into the scalp nightly.
