VITAL STATISTICS
Tlie following vital statistics for August are published in the Gazette : —
The total births in tho four chief boroughs amounted to 565, against 4-82 in, July — an increase of 83. The deaths 'in August were 239, an increase of 19 on the number in July. Of the total deaths, males contributed 131 and females 108. Fifty-six of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 23.43 per cent, of the, whole " number, and 48 of these were of children under one year of age.-
