WARRXAMBOOL TO MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE. September 30. Of the 196 acceptors for the Warrnambool to Melbourne road race of 165 miles, 154 started. Heavy lain fell throughout the night and to-day was dull, with the roads wet and heavy. The result was : W. Hawley (Victoria), 25miii... 1 11. Pinlay (Victoria), 50mm ... 2 E. J. Hawley beat Finlay and Turner (who came in practically together) by lOmin. His time was 7hr 52min 27sec, which was also the fastest for the journey. Neilson was the most prominent of the New Zealand representatives, and finished eighth. Hunn and Walsh (together) were twentieth. Falls were numerous in the road race. L. Arnst had his arm injured.
October 1. - J. Arnst punctured his tyre at Werribee, but he was practically out of the race before that.
