GENERAL BOOTH'S IMMIGRANTS. MELBOURNE, September 26.
Mr Irvine (ex-Premier), in the course of a speech, said that two things were necessary to bring about a proper kind of immigration. One was the establishment of a powerful and well-regulated department in London, and the second was cooperation between the States of the Federation to make, the land ready for the people.
The Premier of Tasmania rrants more information as to General Booth's scheme. The nature of his question indicates that he does not desire paupers. Immigrants* must be able to support themselves till the land begins to be productive.
The Premier of Western Australia (Mr Rason), vrhile giving a general support to Australian immigration, says that Western Australia intends to prosecute a vigorous immigration policy of its own, and one in which it will adopt its own methods.
