VOLUNTEERS.

There will be lots of gaiety at the King Edward Barracks during carnival week. In addition to the three performances of the Military Circus, which take place on Wednesday, 3th, Thursday, 9th, and Friday, 10th, the College Rifles have arranged with the Amateur , Boxing Association to hold a boxing tournament on Monday, the 6th. and Tuesday, the 7th. In the tournament there will be two championships open to Volunteers only, one for men under lOst Sib, and one for men above that weight. It is expected there will be a large number of entries. There will also bo a number of other amateur boxing contests. While the Boxing Association will have entire control of the ring, the Christ's College Rifles will have charge of the general arrangements, and the profits will form the corps' contribution to the Drillshed Fund Captain Richardson has sent the following circular to corps: — "I have been informed that as you take a keen interest in Volunteering you will pardon my troubling you. As you no doubt know,- we are raising funds towards liquidating the debt on the new barracks. We are holding the Military Circus on the Bth, 9th, v and 10th November (race week), and a boxing competition on the 6th and 7th November, under the superintendence of the local Boxing Association. In this there are two classes for Volunteers only. May I ask you to promulgate -this amongst local corps. 1 will be glad to p,ive any information to intending competitors. I trust, you will be able to send us some representatives from your district." Theprizes for the Volunteer events will be a tour-guinea trophy for first in each class, and a two-guinea trophy for second in each class. As there are thousands of friends of Volunteers who will certainly visit tho circus, their pleasure will be enhanced by the chance of seeing the Volunteer boxing championships. I trust this boxing feature will be made an annual one, for among the thousands of Volunteers in the colony it, should not be a hard matter to arrange a number of boxing championships, especially as Volunteers should all be, to a certain extent, athletes.
