September 26. — Thanks to an unusually fina season, the work of the agriculturist is well advanced Tho lea oats are through the ground and looking -well, whilst another fort-i-ighf or so will see the bulk of the tornrp giound ploughed and ieady for the drill. Tha chief role of the farmer has been that y£ "gentle shepherd" for thei last month. That eventful time, however is about ovei for another -season. The weather has been excollent and big percentages will be the rule rather than the exception.
Dog Poisoning. — Ivo less than eight dogs — some of therm valuable ones — have been, poisoned about here lataly. Settlers are justly i.iddgnant concerning the matter, and have placed the affair in the hands of a detective, so that it ia quite probable we shall know before long who is responsible for this wholesale canine slaughter.
Sawniilling.— lt is reported that Tinipany'a sawmill, which has been closed' foi the last fortnight, -will be in full swing again shortlyThis will be a relief to Ihe employees, espe-. cially to the niafned xjortion, who have their homes in, tihe neighbourhood. Tho Fishing Season. — Local anglers are busj with gum boots, waders, casts, minnowsr flies., etc., getting ready foi the fishing season. TheAparima is the finest trout stream in Soutihland, and no doubt a small army of the followers of Izaak Walton will whip its waters this season.
