August 17 The final result of the Norwegian rei'er- : endum -shows that 368.200 voted in favoui of the dissolution of the union with Sweden, and 184 against. Mr O. E. Eastman, an American archi* tect. has patented plans for building house* of glass. If his idea is adopted dwellings, banks, and hotels will have walls entirelj of opalescent wire glass, and windows will be abolished. A man driving a dray, and calmly smoking a pipe whilst seated on top of 50 kegs of blasting powder, attracted the attention of the road overseer, says the Napier Telegraph, who immediately stopped the vehicle and ordered him to stop smoking.
