Dear Pasquin, — A very quiet week in Wellington for seekers after entertainment, the only places where comedy and tragedy were offered during the week being at His Majesty'G Theatre, the Theatre Royal, and the Hous» of Representatives. The Howard-Staaiford Dramatic Company opened its season at the Royal in "The Crimes of the Police 1 ' last Saturday night, and received a good reception. The play was a thriller, but the combination gave evidence that it bad not got into its stride as a combination. "Saved by the Sea" is to be the first change of bill, the new piece going on to-morrov/. Peter Savieri, an ex-Wellington boy, who has been through the colony with several companies, and has just finished an engagement with Miss Fitzmaurice Gill, joins the H.-S. Company to-morrow. I hear that the Fitz.-Gil! Company, which came from Australia under engagement to the MacMahon Bros., either have returned or intend returning to the Commonwealth. The MacMahons have taken charge of Mi B. Curtis's American Company. /"T\ Next week we are to have a. visit from Hugo Heermann, whose reputation places him amongst the foremost violinists of the day. He comes under the direction of John Tait, and a well-known journalist, Mr Norman, is his avant courier. Mr Norman arrived from Sydney on Wednesday last. Mi John Prouse, Wellington's very own baritone singer, who arrived from the Old Country this week, was engaged this morning to sing at the Heermaoin concerts in the Town Hall next week. Mr Prouse was the only vocalist for the famous Kubelik in a tour of 15 concerts in Great Britain a few months ago. Our Amateur Operatio Society put on "Dorothy" next Wednesday, and the season promises to be a, musical success. The latest additions to Fuller's Entertainers at His Majesty's Theatre are Signor Terzillo and Miss Stella Lipman, also Trevor and Cara {the latter a young acrobat), and the Valraojre Sisters. To-morrow Charles and Laura Rollo are to join tha company, which, has been doing exceedingly good business during the week. The Huga-rdos are about to spring a SMiprise upon the colony with a pantomimic illusion. There are two in the team (Jean and Dal), both men, and they have been working in Wellington day and night during the past tA'o months perfecting their novelty. for a tour of the inland towns of the colony, commencing at Otaki on the 2nd September. Mr Alfred Hill is now organising a company of amateurs to produce his comic opera ''A Moorish Maid" in Weliington. The first practice of the chorus is to be held to-morrow evening.
