THE AGENT-GENERAL'S CABLEGRAM. WELLINGTON. April 3.

The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-general for New Zealand, dated London, April 2: — The mutton marked is film. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4sd per ib for light weights and 4Jd per 1b for heavy weights. Quotations for other North Island mutton are • 4Jd per lb for light weights and 3Zd per lb for heavy weights. There is a good demand for all lamb, and supplies are increasing. The average price to-day for New Zealand (Canterbury brand; is s|d per ]b, and for New Zealand brands other than Canterbury 5Jd per lb. The beef maiket is dull, and there is no change in prices. The butter market is quiet, but steady, prices having slightly declined for all grades owing to the mild season. The high price is restricting business, and the average price of choicest New Zealand butter to-day is 106s per cwt, while Danish is 110s per cwt. The cheese market is firm. White, 58s per cwt; coloured, 67s per cwt. The hemp market is depressed., and the price of New Zealand hemp, " good fair Wellington " grade, on spot to-day, per ton is £29. The April to June shipments are similarly quoted. The cocksfoot seed market is firm, and a good business has been done. The average price for bright, c-lean^-Ne-w Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 17lb per bushel, on spot, is 52s per cwt.
