THE COMMISSION AT MILTON.
i PROGRESS OF THE BRUCE DISTRICT. At Milton the commission was met and welcomed by the Mayor (Mr W. Moore), Mr J. Tough. Mr D. Miu-ray, Mr D. Reid, j iun., and others, and entertained in the J Railway Hotel. The health of " The •SJorough Council of Milton " was honoured j with enthusiasm, and th& singing of '" For they are jolly good fellows.'" Mr J. M'Kerrow, chairman of the comTnission, m thanking the Mayor and townspeople for their welcome, said he was pleased to once more visit the district, "which he saw for the first time in 1861. He had been gratified to hear, in conversation with Mr Tough, that land was rising in value in the district. Whereas it was ' worth £10 or £12 pe<r acre 10 years ago, it ■was now worth in some cases £29 p&r acre — '. a fact that was principally due, he believed, ■to the draining, liming, and good farming 'of the land. — (Applause.) Ec had also been. ' -pleased to hear from the Mayor that the ■settlers in the district had no grievances to i jplace before the commission. — (Applause.)
