FIRST GRADE. Albion v. Carisbrook A.

The Albion and Carisbrook A teams finished their match on Saturday, vbich resulted in an exciting win for Albion by 2 points. There was a large number of spectators. The Albion, with three wickets down for 33 runs, continued with G. Cunimings (the mot o:it man) and Rowlatt, and the score Boon rose to 60, when Cummings, in trying a big hit, was clean bowled by Butler for 9. Cameron came in, but soon lost Rowlatt, he being caught in the slips by Harraway, off Pearless, for ]1. Five for 60. Shelton n-ade 3, when he was caught by Uttley, off Adams. Six for 64. E. Cummings made a oouple of 3's, when he was caught by Graham, off Adams. Seven for 71. Sipence ■was next, but could not survive the first ball from Butler. Eight for 71. Moen followed, and mado a single, but was also bowled by Butler. Nine for 73. Corbett went in and played carefully, while Cameron notched three 3's, but in trying for another was clean bowled by Butler. Cor■bett carried his bat for 2, the total reaching 86. Butler (four for 22) bowled best for Carisbrook, and was well supported by Adams (three for 17), Harraway (one for 9), and Pearless (one for 17). With 163 runs to win, and about two hours and a-quarter to do it, Carisbrook did not appear to have a chance. That notion, however, was soon dispelled. Starting with Graham and Adams, the runs were coming quickly, Grahani laying on the wood, while both players *an well between the wickets, stealing what almost looked impossible runs.

However, at 45 Adams hit all over one from Moen, and retired for a nicely-com-piled 19. Fearless followed, and started caiefully, while Graham went at the bowling. The score soon rose to 67, when Graham jumped out to one from Moen. Williams making no mistake about the slumping. Two for 67. Graham had made 40, giving the. spectators a real good exhibition of forcible cricket, for which he got a great reception on returning to the pavilion. Rutherford came in, and drove Corbett for 3, but on facing Spence tpconod one up in the air. Cramond ran in and made a good catch. Three for 70. Howden came in, and play quietened for a while, and the score • was taken to 93. when Howden was caught ■ in the- long field by G. Curamings after a ! useful 11. Four for 93. L-yttleton started to force th© runs, but had only made 6 when Oorhett clean bowled him. Five for 102. Butler followed, and, with Pearless. took the score to 115, when Butler was we-11 caught by Dry, off Moen, for 5. Six for 115. Martyn, after scoring a single, gave Dry another chance, which he accepted. Seven for 116. The game, now looked an easy win for Albion, but Uttley on going in in; mediately got to work, both he and Pearless stealing runs to perfection. The score soon mounted to 144, when P<\aik?ss tappod one round to leg into the hands of E. Cunimings, after having made a very useful 43. Pearless did not go in for big hitting, but t> keep every ball down, this being evidenced by the fact that in his score were ii eluded 30 singles. Uttley Avas 14 when ' Harraway came in, Carisbrook wanting but 16 runs to win and a quarter of an hour to get them- Harraway opened with a nice stroke for 1, bringing Uttley to face Spenee. Excitement amongst the Albion members was now intense. Spenee bowled* a ball doAvn pitched on the wicket, breaking away to the off, and Uttley, jumping out to hit it, missed, and was brilliantly stumped by Williams, after compiling 15 in first-class style. The Albion thus won an exciting match by 15 runs. The bowling for the Albion was done by Moen (five for 68), ' Corbett (two for 47), and Spence (two for 23). Moen was without doubt the most difficult to play. Messrs R. F. Foster, jun and H. Harris gave entire satisfaction to both teams as umpires. The following are the scores: —
