THE WAIHOLA REGATTA.

THE INTERPROVINCIAL, RACE.

A WIN FOR SOUTHLAND.

After yaiiily endeavouring to get Uia Interprovincial Fours off on Thursday evening, the Regatta Committee inspected the course at daylight yesterday morning. The gale was still raging, and the water very rough, but it was decided to attempt the race. At 7.30 a.m. the Southland crew, from th© Invercargill Rowing Club, the same crew that competed for the championship at Wellington, and the Otago crew, being the Port Chalmers Rowing Club's senior fours, floated out their boats from the jetty. To row up to the starting point was a matter of very considerable difficulty, but the lask was managed without mishap after some considerable time had elapsed. The boats got away from a good start, being despatched by Mr S. Craig, and the Southland boat almost, at once took the load, bub after travelling about 100 yards both boats filled, and had to be taken to tho shore. Another start was made, and the boats kept well together for 100 yards, when the Otago boat • was overtaken by a heavy wave and gwamped. The Sotithlanders, who had the advantage of lighter weight, managed to keep afloat, and went over the course, attended by Hl9 launch, arriving at the finish half full of water. The two judges, Mr L. Wilson and Mr A. B. Gascoigne. declared a win for Southland, and the Otago boat was dragged ashore, tho result being a win for Southland for
