OTAGO EARLY SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of ladies connected with the Otago Early Settlers' Association was held in the Victoria Hall on Monday to take into consideration the proposal of holding a carnival m June, 1906 (winter show time) in aid of the funds for the erection of an Early Settlers' H*!l, the sinouHt previously raised for tha.t purpose having, unfortunately, failing a Government grant, to be devoted to the purchase of a site. Mrs W. H. Fexens was voted to the chair, and the motion that a carnival be held was carried unanimously, the ladies piesent pledging themselves to do all in their po-vvei to further the movement, and to influence their fuerds for its assistance. The meeting was in favour of the era-nival being made more of a spectacular nature, thus re-
heving the* ladies, to a certain extent, from the very arduous work carried out by them with such zeal on the previous occasion. Several valuable suggestions were made as to n-ovel+ies, a.nd outside demonstrations in the interval, but de-tails, and the election of president, treasurer, and committee were left to the next meetings, Mr Langlands (secretary), who was present, premising that, if approved by his committee, he would notify all town and suburban ladfes (connected with the aspociation) of the time and place of meeting, when final arrangements would be made.
