THE GAELIC SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the Gaelic Society was held on Wednesday m the Oddfellows' Hall, Stuart street. The chair was occupied by Chieftain Roderick Mackenzie, supported by Chueftam Colin M'Kenzie and Mr Duga d M'Lachlan. An apology for unavoidable ?bsence was received from the chief (Mr Dtigald M'Pherson), who was out of town on business. Tli3 Chairman, in his cpenmg remarks, mentioned having received letters from their old and respected members. Mr William Hutchison and Mr James M'Coll — the latter in Gaelic. Both thess wou.d reco.ve attention at nexfc meeting, ?nd he (the speaker) would promise on that occasion, with thess letters and a further instalment of the chief's account of his Home trip, the riembois would have a good time. Air Dugald M'Lachlan (Purakarmi) gave an interesting speech in Gaelic on the massacre of Glenco, illustrated by photogiaphs of ihe scene of the dastardly tragedy, which, ha said, was the foulest blot on the Brtl.sh. escutcheon. The district was well known to him (Mr M'Lachlan), and the description he gave of the massacre was from the traditions of the neighbourhood— not from books. Mr Simon M'Kechme was elected a, member, and in proposing him, Mr Donald M'Pherson took occasion to eulogise ths Clan M'Kechnie, who3e nams was new a houshold word m New Zealand, and without whom he did. not knew whit the Gaelic Society would do.
