GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET.

Messrs Donald Reid and Co. CL'.mited), report. — We held our weekly auction sale of giain and produce at our stores on Monday, when we submitted an average catalogue of oats, fowl v. heat, barley, potatoes, chaff, straw, and hay, to a fair attendance of buyers. Competition in all lines was confined chiefly to best quality, and nearly all lots of tins description tound buycis at quotations. Prices ruled as under: —

Oats. — There is moderate inquiry fcr milling samples at late quotations. Shippers are only filling immediate orders for good to best feed, pending the arrival of the new crop. Only a few samples have come to hand from northern districts, ancl these, although bright in colour, are somewhat thm in condition. We quote : Prime milling, Is 5d to Is Sic! ; good to best feed, Is 4d to Is 4Jd ; infeiuor to medium, lOd to Is 3<l per bushel, sacks extra.

Wheat. — In prime milling quality there is little business passing. Miliei-3' leqiuremems aie confined to tbis class of wheat, but stocks of ihis class are nov, almost exhausted. Medium quality has no inquiry. FowP wheat 13 not offering so fiee'y, ancl for good whole wheat finds ready sale at quotations. Prime milling sell at 3s to 3s 3d; medium, 2s 7d to 2s llcl , whole fowl wheat, 2s 5d to 2s 6d ; broken and damaged, Is 9d to 2s 3d per bushel, sacks extra.

Potatoes. — During the past week supplies were fairly regular, and prices ruled steady at late quotations. Consignments to-day were not so heavy, and all sorts showed some 1m provement in value. We quote: Best kidneys, £2 10s to £2 15s ; choice, to £3 ; other sorts, £2 to £2 7s 6d per ton, sacks in.

Chaff.— The market is well svipphedl, Ariel anything but prime, bright, heavy chaff has little attention. Medium and inferior sorts aie in over supply, and impossible to Q.uit on the basis of late quotations. We quote : Best oaten sheaf, £2 10s to £2 15s; extra pwme, to £2 17s Cd ; medium to good, £2 to £2 7s 6cl ; mfeiior and light, £1 10s to £1 los per ton, Lags cxha. Pressed Straw.— The market is fully supplied, and price 9 are a shade easier. We quote : Best oaten and wheat, 25s to 27s 6d per ton.

Dalgety and Co. (.Limited) repoit having held their weekly sale of grauii and produce at their stoics on Monday. The catalogue submitted was a, fairly representative one, and there was moderate competition for most of the lines ca offer. Prices luletl as under —

Wheat. — During the week seveial samples of, row wheat (principally nibbed out samples/ have come to hand, and as regards quality tb7 new crop promises to be a first-class onej but no sales of any consequonce are reported* Holders of old milling wheat continue to asß from 3s to 3s Id oil trucks, which the local millers are reluctant to give. Fowl wheat as in steady demand at lato values. Quotations. — Prime milling, 3s to 3s 3d; medium milling, 2s 8d to 2s lid ; good whole fowl wheat, '2s 5d to 2s 6id ; broken and damaged, 2s to 2s 3d per bushel, sacks extra. Potatoes. — In consequence of low prices ruling for some time back, consignments are coming lorward, and the market as now bare of supplies, good kidneys to-day showing an improvement in valus to the extent of irona 7s 6d to 103 per ton. Quotations -—Best kidneys, £2 15s to £3; medium kidneys, £2 5s to £2 12s 6d, bags in.

Chaff. — Fairly hea'-y coßsgnments continui; to come forward, and sales are difficult to effect unless at a reduction in late values. Prime quality lias most attention from buyers, medium and inferior quality meeting wi/th. little or no demand. Quotations. Prime oaten sheaf, £2 12s 6d to £2" 17s Cd ; medium, £2 5s to £2 10s, inferior and stiaw chaff, £1 10s to £2, bags extra.
