A LETTER FROM GIULIA.
Dciar Dot, — I am in the Oainaru Hospital at present, but hopo to be able to leave next week. 1 got a bad cold at Christmas, and) it settled on my chest, and I have been bad ever since. I camo m here last Monday, and hnd to lie in "bed till Fridlay lam getting a little stronger now, and I hope to- bo out in ibout another ■week. My wrist is also bad, ajid my ears. I ■was in Dunedin for the Christmas holidays, and enjoyed myself lovely. I went clown to Dunedin on the "Wednesday befoie Christmas. I was lucky enough to pick up a mate lr the tiain, and we kept together for a week. We liad a roal good time exploring the town. My mate went down south after a week in Dunodin, but., I was fortunate enough to meet an old friend just the night befora she left, so I tvaa all right. The last week I was in DunecJin was the best week evei I spent in my life. On New Year's Day I was down at Broad Bay regatta. We went down in the ss. Express from Dunedin, but as the steamer was too large to get to. the jetty at Broad Bay we had to tranship io the Moerangi, which landed us safely. Wo had a. very good day,, and left by the Moerangi for Dunedin, but we were ■hardly out of the bay when crash .she went on a sand bank, and stuck fast. Well, there we iiad to stop, shiveiing with cold, and with the comforting worcfe ringing m our ears that we •would have to stop there till 3 o'clock next morning. However, some charitable crews in the small boats oanie to the rescue and took us over to the 5.3. Express, which was anchored out in the channc". This was rathei a slow process, but we all i-iv.nged to get to the Express, anil we landed safe in Dunedin at about 8 o'clock or 8.30. I think Dunedin is euoh a pietty place, especially round Musselfcurgh and St Kilda. I was going to go into the Witness office one day, but I thought perhaps I could not see Dot, so I did not go in, but I may go in some time when I'm. in Dunedin a<*ain. °1 was vt the races at Wingatui op December 26 ancS 28, and enjoyed them very much. I met Miss Muffet's sister while I was in Dunedin, but I did not meet any L.F. One Thuis<tey 'evening about a fortnight ago as I was •passing a corner I noticed throe girls standing there, and as I passsd I heard one say, "There's a D.L-F." I felt inclined to turn back and epoak to them, but didn't like to do so, and I did not see them after. I should like to know ■who they wera and if they remember the incident Now, Dot, I must stop^ as I really shouldn't be writing now that I'm retired, but I hope you will excuse me this time, Dot, won't you, considering I am an invalid. I shall answer all my L.F correspondents in due time. ■*low I shall say good-by&, with love to Camellia, Cooee, Paddy's Darling. Oamaruite, and all th. rest, not forgetting Dot and the GIUIiIA.
