NEW ZEALAND BOWLING TOURNAMENT.

KOEIH v. SOUTH

The North v. South match, which wps really a friendly contest, to witness which ladies were specially invited, was played on tho Kaituna Green on Thursday, 28th ult. The attendance at the green was veiy large. the ladies preponderating. The arrangements were very complete and were well cairied out, and -the proceedings weie enlivened by the presence of Mr Sonderhof's Band. The contest was a keen one, and the greatest geniality and good fellowship prevailed all through. The game was -won by the units representing the South by 49 points. At the concluPion of the play the bowlers assembled in a corner of the green, and those m the winning rinks were each presented by Mis Gilkison (the wife of the president of the Bowling Associat.cn) witn a buttonhole bouquet. Mr R. T. Wheeler, jun., spoke a few words before the gathering dispersed, saying he did not then know the result of the match, but if the North had won they deserved it, and if the South had won they would appreciate it. They were all indebted to Mr Gilkison for his kind hospitality. Some did not know Mr Gilkison well, but all those who made his acquaintance were anxious to know him better, and the more they knew him and Mrs Gilkison the better they liked them. — (Applause.) On behalf of bowlers, he desired to thank Mr and Mrs Gilkison for their kindness and for their generous treatment. Cheers having been given for Mr and Mrs Gilkison, and also for Mr Wheeler, Mr Gilkison briefly returned thanks, and the bowlers and their friends then dispersed.
