APPOINTMENT OF VETERINARY SURGEONS.

OAMARU, January 31.

The Farmers' Union on Saturday discussed the proposal of the Dunedin Provincial Executive to appoint veterinary surgeons on the plan of obtaining guarantees from far■^mers for three years. The opinion is strongly "in favour of such on appointment being n>ade, but the farmers are mostly anxious to have a vet. stationed h&re for North Otago.

On Saturday it was deckled at a small meeting to adopt the Dunedin guarantee forms for the canvass, but the proposition was pretty strenuously opposed by several members, who are only in favour of the proposal if the appointee is stationed here.
